Intendant, Theater Basel
Born in Cologne in 1977, Benedikt von Peter studied Musicology, German Philology, Law and Singing in Bonn. He then was assistant director at various houses and founded a free theatre collective. After working in the fringe scene for several years, he staged productions at theatres and opera houses in Germany and Switzerland (among others, Theater Basel, Oper Frankfurt, Staatstheater Hannover, Komische und Deutsche Oper Berlin), and from 2012 to 2016 he was director of the musical theatre section at Theater Bremen. He was awarded, among others, the Götz Friedrich- Preis, the theatre award “Der Faust”, as well as the Kurt Hübner-Preis for the musical theatre programme and his own productions at Theater Bremen. From 2016 to 2020 Benedikt von Peter was Intendant of Luzerner Theater staging, among others, Gustav Mahler’s “Kindertotenlieder”, Franz Schubert’s “Faust”, or Guiseppe Verdi’s “Falstaff”. Since the 2020/21 season he has been Intendant of Theater Basel.
